Diving Safaris 10^th annual beach cleanup….SUCCESS!

Kelley Mae Gibbs with Diving Safaris has done it again!  Kelley is the organizer of the Project Aware International Beach Cleanup in Playa Hermosa Guanacaste. She has been organizing this event for the last 5 years.  She says it is a great way to educate the children on the importance of not littering and the effects littering has on the marine life. 

Over 100 volunteers showed up promptly at 8am rain or shine to participate in keeping Playa Hermosa beautiful. The underwater portion of the clean up had to be cancelled due to rough conditions and low visibility, so volunteers focused on cleaning the beach and the road areas.  This year the children of Playa Hermosa became AWARE Kids, thanks to the Project AWARE Foundation.  Kelley did a 30 minute briefing with the children and then passed out the activity books. After the clean up everybody gathered at Diving Safaris to drink cokes, eat hot dogs and buy raffle tickets.  Businesses from Playa Hermosa and Playa Del Coco donated many great prizes this year, everyone was hoping for a chance to win!  Donations and money collected from raffle sales amounted to $600 and is planned to be used for a future park for the children of Playa Hermosa.
